Your Funeral Guy’s blog and book has been featured at MSN Money Central. This is a good step toward families learning how to do a lower cost Funeral.

In this economy for many folks it is important to lower funeral cost.

Folks simply find putting Ten  to Fifteen Thousand  in the ground unacceptable in the current uncertain Economy.

Today Many folks say that you can save on a funeral by not choosing embalming, something that is not required by Law.

With a little forethought, you, too, can save thousands of dollars on a funeral or the burial of a loved one, the experts say. Here are some of their top tips:

  • Choose cremation. “The National Funeral Directors Association says the average cost of a funeral in 2006 was $7,323. That does not include a cemetery. The average cost of a cremation is between $1,000 and $1,500,” says R. Brian Burkhardt, the author of “Rest in Peace: Insider’s Tips to the Low Cost Less Stress Funeral” and the author of a blog about the funeral industry. “So cremation is the No. 1 way to save money on your funeral.”
  • Save even more by choosing “direct cremation.” The deceased is promptly cremated, without a funeral service or viewing. Direct cremation usually includes transport of the body, cremation and a cardboard or plastic container for the ashes.
  • Skip the preservative. “Forgo embalming,” says Burkhardt. “Under the law — the Funeral Rule — you have the right to forgo embalming. That can save you between $600 and $800 on the funeral.” Want a traditional funeral anyway? Just choose a closed casket, Burkhardt says. “If the body’s not viewed, it doesn’t have to be embalmed.”
  • Buy that box on the Web. “Get the casket online,” Burkhardt says. “Do not buy it from the funeral home, because — and they hate me when I say this — caskets at the funeral home are marked up between 100 and 500%,” with occasional exceptions, he says. No other single item is so expensive. “I got a $4,000 oversized casket on the Internet (for a friend), and it was delivered to the funeral home the next day, and I paid $1,037.” Today some of the big-box stores, including Costco, sell caskets, too.

You can Make it easily through a funeral without…-yourfuneralguy

16 Nov

Yes, you can make it through a Funeral without the full  use of a Funeral Direct0r, and expensive casket. In many cases however it is still best to hire a funeral director but not for all of his services. You do not have to get a Casket from the traditional funeral directors- Aurora, Batesville, or York Casket Company.

In fact if you are informed, some of the services of a funeral director can be done, by your friends, church members, clergy and others. In actuality you can do some of it before you die.

To some this may seem radical but it is quite simple.

From Rest in Peace Insiders tips to the Low cost Less Stress Funeral.

“The everyday role of the funeral director has been changing
over time. Some of the funeral director’s functions are not
as necessary as they once were. The reality is that today the
average person can plan a funeral that reduces the role
of the funeral director.” Copyrighted Material  from R.Brian Burkhardt

facebookThe Michael Jackson Memorial Funeral service on July 7th 2009 was the biggest event ever on Facebook. It was a bigger  FACE BOOK event than the Barack  Obama Inauguration.

Television reports have the  event as the second largest FUNERAL EVENT on TV coming in  behind the Princess Di Funeral.

There is no way to measure totally the  viewing audience because live streams were everywhere on the web. The event was shown in movie theaters across the country as well.

Snippet from From Mashable.com

“Facebook just sent us the staggering stats coming out of their live Michael Jackson memorial stream, created in partnership with CNN. The numbers far exceed those from Obama’s inauguration, making this the biggest live Facebook event in history.

As of yesterday 800,000 people gave away the Michael Jackson(MJ) virtual glove gift. The Michael Jackson Funeral was the largest Facebook interactive event  ever.

Commentators and many folks thought the MJ  Funeral coverage was over the top and not appropriate. it was a bit much.

New Affirmations on the Death, a Dying of Preneed- Your Funeral Guy

Traditional Preneed has appeared to have an abrupt death due to decapitation in 2008 Too much time on the unsafe teeter totter of death-funeral director greed.

Breaking News-March 15- The Chicago Tribune gave some   new affirmations to the death and dying of  preneed or prepaid funerals. As the death of  preneed continues the average cost of a funeral will go down.

In a post on March 10( “IFDA SPEAKER says Preneed is terminal,it will die.) I stated that preneed will die or be dead by January1st 2010.

The Tribune Article came up with statements by  funeral directors and several experts who stated preneed was no longer profitable for the funeral director.

‘David Nixon, an Illinois financial consultant to funeral homes…..The (IFDA) debacle has given Nixon more reason to advise Illinois funeral directors to stop selling guaranteed funeral contracts. “It really doesn’t make sense in the long run to guarantee things that are beyond your control,” he said.’

“In Rockland, Mass., Robert Biggins stopped offering guaranteed contracts six months ago at his funeral home. Some funeral costs increase by more than 5 percent a year, but banks are not paying that much for deposits, said Biggins, past president of the National Funeral Directors Association.

Also quoted was Bonnie McCullough, executive director of the New York State Funeral Directors Association. She said  ” We’re in unprecedented times right now,” she said. “Can you guarantee what something is going to cost 15 years from now?”

The main reason over the years that Funeral Directors collected and hung on to large numbers of preneed policies was they received the interest on the folks money. Large Funeral Homes and funeral groups, corporate funeral homes, in actuality  during many years received more money in preneed commissions than they did from doing funerals each year!  Just like Wall Street it all came down to greed.

The evidence for this also comes from the two big Funeral Corporations, Service Corporation and Stewart Enterprises who showed extensive losses in  their cemetery preneed in there last financial reports.

This  was  a bubble for funeral directors and  it gave funeral home owners lots of dollars.  Like all bubbles this one has burst.

Traditional Preneed in effect was decapitated in 2008 by the economic down turn, the NPS and the IFDA scandals. In spite of efforts to reattach the head, it cannot be done.

Thanks to the Chicago Tribune for some affirmations on the death of preneed.

Revealed “Tip of the Iceberg” IFDA Scandal-Your Funeral Guy

15 Mar
The IFDA scandal is the tip of the iceberg of bigger scams.

The IFDA scandal is the tip of the iceberg of bigger scams.

Here is The “Tip of the Iceberg” on the IFDA  Scandal. The license suspension of  Merrill Lynch Employee who sold Key Guy Insurance to the IFDA  shows that the IFDA Scandal is only a small part of a bigger swindle.. This  not good news for the funeral industry, prepaid funerals(preneed) and funeral costs.

The loss of integrity and TRUST by the IFDA is bad enough. There is more.

Merrill Lynch(MLBT) has lost integrity and trust with Wall Street and the American people. So  has the new owner of Merrill Lynch- Bank of America (BOFA). Both have received massive funding from the US Treasury.

Both MLBT and BOFA are under Federal Investigation, and there are signs that the IFDA ( Illinois Funeral Directors Association)and possibly Regulators in Illinois  are being investigated by enforcing agencies.

So we have scandalIFDA” on top of  scandal “Merrill Lynch” on top of scandal Bank of America.

The Merrill Lynch individual salesman’s License is only a small ice chunk on the  tip of the iceberg. Many investigations are going on by the media ( state, local and national) and State and Federal  Enforcing Agencies.

The significant line  the Chicago Tribune article is this: ” insurance policies was “unsuitable” for the trust and violated state securities laws.” The  Friday the 13th Trib Article” shows that in Illinois that the Secretary of State, the Comptroller, and the Department of Financial Regulation are all investigating.

We know the Senator Burris (D-IL) mess and  Impeached Governor Blagojevich are under the tip of the iceberg with “THE REST OF THE STORY” as well. These two  highly PUBLIC Investigations are connected to the IFDA Funeral Mess.

Time will tell us what is  ALL under the water.

Illinois Funeral Directors Ponzi Scheme. Chicago Style Back room meetings stopped on Friday, the 13th.

Illinois Funeral Directors Ponzi Scheme. Chicago Style Back room meetings stopped on Friday, the 13th.

Breaking News–  A series of  Chicago style backroom meetings have  happened on the IFDA Preneed  ponzi scheme. No funeral consumer stimulus  or help here.  The First Meeting, occurred on Wednesday March 11th, IFDA Board Members, Regulators, 12 Funeral Directors and Merrill Lynch Personnel were involved. The Comptrollers office called the meeting, and  Michael T. McRaith, Secretary of the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in the State of Illinois called the meeting to order.

Evidently there have been more back room “events“with State Regulators following that meeting. That all seemed to finish late on Friday meaning most in the press would not get information in time for weekend publications. Information from the IFDA is sketchy as always.

Information from Illinois Funeral Directors Association is clear on this: FUNERAL DIRECTORS in the STATE of ILLINOIS WILL HAVE TO PAY for the Ponzi Scheme of the IFDA.

This will create upward pressure on the average cost of a funeral.

The IFDA still is not taking resonsibility for it’s actions.

Here is one E-mail  I received from the IFDA on the matter.

“IFDA Special Report

Update on IFDA Pre-Need Trust Program

Intense meetings with state regulators over the past three days have resulted in significant progress in the development of plans to deal with current trust issues. It was strongly suggested that with all participating IFDA Pre-Need Trust program funeral directors working together, a solution could be reached that while not providing 100 percent recovery, would likely lead to substantial relief.

Additionally, the pre-need department will assist in the development of operational procedures that will allow funeral directors to fully explain and administer the elements of the program to their pre-need customers.

Funeral directors must be willing to provide all guaranteed and non-guaranteed customers with the full service called for in their contracts. By meeting this requirement, funeral directors may be eligible to participate in the relief program.

We will keep you posted on additional progress.”

This is a very sad scenario.

THERE ARE NO CONCRETE PLANS IN PLACE TO NOTIFY NON GUARRANTEED  PRENEED POLICY HOLDERS OF THEIR LOSSES.

It does not appear that these policy holders who purchased there contracts in good faith will receive any written guarrantees.

The Funeral consumer continues to suffer inspite of Chicago style Back Room Meetings.

Your Funeral Guy: Exposing the Funeral Cost Scam-by World Famous Author

25 Feb

In March  a Creative work exposing the Funeral Industry and your funeral cost will be published by a world famous author. The story is a creative mystery and it addresses problems in the funeral industry.

The Undertakers Tale” will Rock the Funeral Industry with humor and creativity and expose charlatan behaviors. I have not read the story but because of the author’s world wide status it will be good. This author is very creative so I do not believe that the current Illinois Funeral Directors Association (IFDA)Scandal-Alleged Ponzi  scheme or the National Prearranged Services (NPS) scandal  will be addressed. There are rumors of another  eastern exposure of these recent events.

The best selling author has a large number books published and was at one time the most popular author in the United States of America. I am the author of a book on the funeral industry and will never be as  famous as the “Undertaker Tale” guy. Neither will anyone else alive today.

You see the famous author is Mark Twain.
