The Emmet Till Historical Casket will be moved to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. This  has been reported by ABC 7 news in Chicago. This was a courageous gesture by the family. The casket will be a useful tool to teach folks about Civil Rights.

The original casket was supposed to be preserved at Burr Oak Cemetery In July the Cook County Sheriff  found  the coffin desecrated , with a family of possums living inside. The owners of  Burr Oak Cemetery Perpetua Inc, insulted not just the Emmet Till Family but the civil rights movement in general.

Snippet From ABC 7 Chicago:

“How humble and how honored we are that the family would entrust this important and personal object to the Smithsonian Institution, to the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, said Lonnie Bunch, of the Smithsonian Museum of African-American History.”
