Your Funeral Guy: Three videos on Funeral Cost

27 Jul

The First of the Three Videos on Funeral Cost is covered here to day.

This “last lecture” covers the dreams in your life and how you may achieve them  This is a real lesson on how you can continue through life with funeral cost that will count. It is nothing to do with the monetary cost in funeral. The funeral cost of one’s life….is the subject here.

What is stated leaves out religion and spirituality, but  not the true funeral cost of death and dying. The virtual reality guy takes us right into reality of death, funeral and funeral cost.

The video and last lecture of Randy Pauch.

He died of complications from pancreatic cancer at age 47.

Here is the best lecture on Funeral Cost, Death, Dying etc, of recent times. Viewing the whole video is well worth your time.

Your Funeral Guy: SCI Offer To buy Stewart Enterprises-Not good for Funeral Cost!

15 Jul

SCI Offer to buy Stewart Enterprises is not good for Funeral Cost! Generally it is my experience that these companies avoid informing you of your low funeral cost options. They prefer you to use their expensive funeral locations.(SCI=Service corporation International)

In Fact the actions of these two corporations and their unwillingness to let consumers know their rights was a large part of the reason the 21st century “Rest in Peace.” was written. If you read this work you can walk out with a lower cost funeral at any SCI or Stewart Enterprises Funeral Home. The author guarantees it. SCI is the major funeral corporation and along with Stewart Enterprises.

Stewart Enterprises rejected SCI’s bid to buy the company in a deal valued at $881.7 million and others value it at 1.3 billion. SCI said they might up the bid. SCI said they are likely to give another the offer.

These corporations are famous for keeping family names on funeral homes and selling funerals for high prices. Usually these folks will not help you with a lower cost funeral. If you check out this book you will find help in planning a low cost funeral and walk away paying much less.

Your Funeral Guy: Newsweek, FCA, FD’s on funeral cost an issue.

11 Jul

Here is some info on a recent Newsweek article, and consumer info on the funeral cost. An article appeared on the web in Newsweek, with the focus on consumers and funeral cost. This comes from finalembrace.com.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/144482

“Most of us read stories like this and shake our heads, hoping that the general public doesn’t fall for these trumped up reports. I think that we’re being just a little bit foolish. Mr. Slocum has nothing better to do with his time than stir up more unwarranted concern and fear, in an attempt to garner more memberships, sell more books (over 5300 publications sold in 2006) and solicit more donations which pay his salary.

The general public needs to know that there are tens of thousands of local, family-owned funeral homes that work hard every day (and night) to see to every detail at their time of need. And the employees, managers and officers of just over 2000 corporately-owned firms are providing similar services.

The employees of the Funeral Consumer’s Alliance rely upon donations from scared individuals to pay their bills. Funeral professionals rely upon satisfied and comforted neighbors to keep their families fed.

One group peddles fear and scare tactics. The other offers hope, comfort and peace-of-mind.

Which is more noble?–Tim from final embrace.com

http://finalembrace.com/blog/

It is not really all that black and white. In fact like most things it is grey.

Funeral Directors do not generally inform folks of their funeral options. They avoid talking about consumer rights. and the funeral rule and yes home funerals.

More from final embrace:

“As someone who sits on the board of a local charity, I also have issues with any organization that calls itself a charity, but spends so much of its income on overhead. The Red Cross has gotten flack for spending just $0.10 of every dollar on administrative costs, but it appears that for the FCA, that amount is significantly higher.

I think we can all agree that we want our consumer families to make the best, most well-informed decisions possible. The question is whether or not they are hearing all sides of the story.”-Michelle Carter

Michelle Carter is the former owner of the Center For Transition, a grief counseling and funeral consulting company. A licensed funeral director, Michelle is now the Assistant Manager of the E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill, NY.”

http://finalembrace.com/blog/

Michelle Carter is a former independent contractor operating with a new funeral home. She is an example of how your funeral cost can be lowered by engaging a funeral director without a traditional funeral home.

Your Funeral Guy: Funeral Cost remains of NPS picked over.

10 Jul

Funeral Cost remains of NPS picked over. As Funeral homes pay for this your cost goes up.

NPS- National Prearrange Services- Funeral Cost Scandal hits 500 Million. Here is a quote from a recent article on Funeral Cost. “The FBI is interested. Funeral homes across the nation wonder if they will be forced to pay for tens of thousands of funerals. Authorities are tracing the various fates of $500 million in prepaid funeral funds.”

More importantly as Funeral homes pay for this your cost goes up.

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/story/3F4D6DC2E8D284FC862574810011E33E?OpenDocument

Again the lesson here it is do not do preneed. Preplan but do not prepay. No matter what is said a low cost or lower cost funeral cannot be done by prepaying a funeral director.

Will the same fate happen to the IFDA? IFDA Preneed trust? Illinois Funeral Directors Association? There loss was only 40 million dollars! Look inside the funeral cost book.

Your Funeral Guy: Funeral Cost-Options Caskets up to 1/2 off

6 Jul

According to a recent Funeral Cost ( Newsweek and the FCA) article Caskets can be obtained for 1/2 off from an alternate source or on the internet. According to Newsweek and the FCA:

“The funeral-home defendants are charging about double for caskets that are identical to what you can get elsewhere,” says Gordon Schnell, an attorney representing the class-action defendants. “You can buy caskets privately, on the Internet, at Costco—we want to get the word out that consumers have options.”

Funeral home defendants described here are: the major Funeral Home Corporations and the major casket corporation. These are the major funeral corporations in America.

Unfortunately family funeral homes also employ this tactic Some Funeral Home leaders mentioned on this blog do this( Hultrgen Funeral Home, Calvert Funeral Homes and Trimble Funeral Homes). Just to be clear half off is an estimate and does not apply to all areas of the country

On July 3rd 2008, Newsweek did an article creating a funeral, funeral cost and FCA- Funeral Consumer Alliance stir. The picture of the biodegradable casket gives you a look at future funeral cost. Joshua Slocum of the Funeral Consumers Alliance also did a great Job handling comments after the article appeared. Slocum is a true Funeral Futurist. The article is Called “A Serious Undertaking.”

Quoting from the Newsweek Article:

“the annual conference of the Funeral Consumers Alliance, a watchdog group for the death-care industry that advocates simple, personalized and environmentally sound alternatives to the typical American burial.”

Joshua Slocum is exactly correct when the article quotes him:

“I want people to be shocked,” Slocum says, “that in some states, the body belongs to the mortuary by state law. And once a funeral director has got a body in the door, it’s over.

Your Funeral Guy:Funeral Cost (Cash)- Flashy Websites and Facilities

2 Jul

This a tale of two funeral homes and their funeral cost. Funeral Cost Cash is eaten up by flashy Websites and facilities.Yes Funeral cost cash is often taken over by marketing websites and fancy corporate like funeral facilities. Worse yet corporate funeral homes are often disguised as Family Funeral Homes. The major corporations SCI and others do this. It is essential to know who you are dealing with in keeping down funeral cost.

A model funeral home: Barton Family Funeral Service states its philosophy well in keeping down Funeral Cost.

“Barton Family Funeral Service is founded on the belief that there is a better way to deal with death than the expensive offerings of the corporate funeral industry. We urge a return to traditional values, beliefs, and cultural practices that are often compromised when traditional funerals cost too much. The growing trend toward personalized last rites is really just a return to the ways our ancestors faced the reality of death.”

http://bartonfuneral.com/

By contrast this Funeral Home promotes it’s fancy facility and hides it’s prices behind a flash opener of it’s upscale facility.

http://www.calvertmemorial.com/

This flash is designed to take your funeral cost cash. Worse yet from our family to yours is actually quite a chain of funeral homes with expensive costs.

Not to mention it is an IFDA Preneed Trust Funeral Home and NPS (national prearranged services) funeral home. Two Preneed Scandals that have rocked Illinois and the USA! Beware national prearranged services and the Illinois Funeral Directors Association

Flash always takes your funeral cost cash!
