Cremation Funeral Cost|YourFuneralGuy

26 May Flame

Revealed here is a brief outline of Funeral and cremation costs or Expenses. Funeral homes and directors often  pride themselves on their “Sales”ability to bring up YOUR FUNERAL costs or expenses.

Average Cost of a Traditional Funeral (No Cemetery) $7,000-10,000 USD

Neptune Society Cremation Cost : $1499.00 USD

World’s Largest Funeral Corporation $2,200-$2,950 USD(World’s Largest Funeral Corp is Service Corporation International, NYSE:SCI)

Cremation Cost to Funeral Home or Funeral Director, $125-$250 USD

FAIR CONSUMER PRICE FOR A CREMATION: $425.00-$625.00 USD.

Cremations are becoming increasingly popular as families, pinched financially by the still-slumbering economy, seek to memorialize their loved ones more affordably.

Of the 2.4 million people who died in the U.S. in 2005, 32 percent were cremated, according to the Cremation Association of North America. The association estimates almost 40 percent of people who die in 2010 will be cremated, and that by 2025 about 57 percent will be cremated.

A traditional funeral typically costs from $7,000 to $10,000 for services, casket, burial and a headstone, according to funeral-tips.com.

Based on data collected by the Cremation Association, the average cost of cremation is about $1,600, ranging from less than $1,000 to more than $5,000 with additional services that might include a coffin, custom urns and a burial plot.

But consumers should be aware that package options and add-ons can bring costs in line with traditional funerals. The key is knowing how much a memorial and burial of ashes will cost.

Basic: The most basic of cremation services is called a direct cremation. It includes transportation of the body from the place of death to the funeral home, refrigeration, transportation to and from the crematorium, the cremation and the return of the ashes in a container. The Neptune Society, one of the largest direct-cremation companies in the country, with locations in Des Plaines and Orland Park, charges $1,499 for these services.

Rates vary, however.

A basic cremation offered by Service Corp. International, North America’s largest provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services, can range from $2,200 to $2,295, depending on transportation costs.

UN Paying $50.00 a Day for Haitians to Collect Corpses-YourFuneralGuy

20 Jan

United Nations paying Haiti Residents $50.00 a day to collect corpses

Telegraph.co.uk is  reporting that the Unite Nations is paying people in Haiti $50.00 to collect dead Bodies in  the aftermath of the Haiti Earthquake. Corpses are then delivered for mass burials in mass graves. In a Country where the average pay is $2.00 a day, $50.00  a day  amounts to a lot of money.

What is truly sad About this situation is that there are experienced Funeral Directors in The United States willing and wanting to assist ith the dead in Haiti.

In a recent statement the  USA National Funeral Directors Association, NFDA claims they are being shut out by the Haitian Government. There initial hesitation to mobilize quickly along with statements by the United States State Department not to get involved with the disposition of  dead, have made for the  largest funeral single event since the US Civil War in the Northern Hemisphere where there is no assistance with funerals.

Deaths in the the US Civil  War brought on the rise  of the Funeral Directors as a profession.

Snippet on the Current Situation in Haiti.

The UN has been paying $50 a day to locals to collect corpses – a small fortune in the impoverished state.

Anne Gormally, 28, a Haiti-based British aid worker who survived the earthquake, described the danger of rotting bodies lying strewn in the streets.

“There are corpses everywhere and there is a terrible risk of disease spreading,” said the emergency preparedness coordinator for the charity Action Aid. “There are bodies with no heads or limbs. People are just stepping over them in the street. Or you see a hand or a foot sticking out from under a piece of cloth.”

Medical Science delaying Baby Boomer Funerals-Your Funeral Guy

8 Sep

Medical Science is hollding back the Funerals of Baby Boomers

Medical Science is hollding back the Funerals of Baby Boomers

Medical Science is holding up Baby Boomer Funerals and an explosion of Business for the Funeral Industry. Because of the recession interest in Funeral Service is up 20% according to Mortuary schools. The cremation rate for 2009 has jumped to 38% nationwide.

Many folks are leaving their traditional jobs thinking they are entering a recession proof business called funeral service. Cremation sales are up and traditional sales are down. It is not the number of Sales that are down but the amount of Funeral Goods and Services  people are buying.

From Bakersfield.com

“To the funeral industry, the deaths of baby boomers – people born between 1946 and 1964 – is a windfall worth lusting over. But first, the industry must survive the current “death trough,” the decline in death caused by advances in medical science, among other things.

According to federal agencies that track population and health statistics, the nation’s death rate has dipped slightly and is expected to be “stagnant” for several more years.”

The Funeral business is hurting and anyone who suggests you will have a new  profitable career there is lying. Preneed Sales or prearrangement sales are down 50% (according to the NFDA)and the industry is tarnished by Scandal(IFDA,NPS, Neptune Society, SCI).

Yes Medical Science is holding back baby boomer funerals, but the funeral industry will have to adjust before wind fall profits arrive.

Burr Oak Cemetery Scandal:NFDA Asks FTC To Help-YourFuneralGuy

6 Aug

The National Funeral Directors Association has asked the Federal Trade Commission to bring cemeteries in under the Funeral Rule. This is the Result of the Burr Oak Cemetery Scandal.

The National Funeral Directors Association has asked the Federal Trade Commission to bring cemeteries in under the Funeral Rule. This is the Result of the Burr Oak Cemetery Scandal.

The National Funeral Directors Association has asked for Cemetery Reform as a result of the Burr Oak Cemetery Scandal. Christine Pepper the CEO of The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) has sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission asking the FTC to strengthen  the “Funeral Rule” to include all deathcare vendors which includes Cemeteries. This would be an excellent step in preventing future cemetery scandals like Burr Oak.

The Funeral Rule already applies to Funeral homes but needs to apply to Cemeteries as well. the Full NFDA Letter can be viewed here.

From the letter:

Any time the government extends regulations over sellers in an industry or profession, it has the effect of curtailing the opportunity for abuse. If a seller is not licensed, not inspected and not regulated by federal, state or local governments, it operates in a free-for-all world where there is no accountability for any transgression… NFDA, AARP and other organizations have documented the harm that consumers have experienced…

The FTC has refused to even investigate these complaints by arguing (without any support or evidence) that the practices are not pervasive throughout the industry. As a result, cemetery and crematory consumers continue to suffer from these reoccurring scandals.”

This is the a step forward for the NFDA and they should be commended for sending the letter to the FTC, Federal Trade Commission.

Burr Oak Cemetery Scandal: the Sheriff’s Question:-YourFuneralGuy

2 Aug

Blog+Image_sized_oldgateThe Cook County Sheriffs question on Friday deeply troubles me.   Why did not anyone  speak up? The answer to the Sheriff’s question is quite frightening. But it is not entirely unexpected.

Below is Sheriff’s Dart’s question on Friday after discovering more atrocities.

Snippet From the ChicagoSunTimes:

“How in God’s name this industry has been able to get away with having virtually no regulation or enforcement all these years is mind-boggling,Dart said.”

The answer is we do not like to think of death. When a loved passes on we are forced to think about dying. We  think about  it for awhile and shove our thoughts to the back of the  head, or deep inside. This goes for everyone families, funeral directors, cemetery workers, politicians, and folks from all walks of life. Except when something like Burr Oak happens the wounds are ripped wide open.

iStock_000000089603SmallOn Friday it was reported that the Alsip police looked the other way. The politicians local and national looked the other way. I do not know the local politicos who turned their heads from Burr Oak Cemetery. Most probably did not know. But I am aware that Democratic and Republican leaders in Washington of the past and present  have strong ties to the the Funeral and Cemetery interests. We will explore this further. I have no problem giving names because others have mentioned them before.

About a year ago I wrote a Funeral Book and said that the way to not being ripped off by the industry is to “make em follow the rules.” Problem is most people, even the authorities and those in the industry,  do not have a firm grip on the rules(law). Cemetery workers have no professional training. Ethics classes in Mortuary Schools for Funeral directors  are lame.

I am not holding out for cemetery and funeral reform. Where were the funeral directors in the Burr Oak Scandal? Some had to notice graves were gone when they rolled in driving  their black  hearses? -They collected the big money, looked the other way and went home.

So where are the owners of Burr Oak? Their negligence is quite incomprehensible. They have been conspicuously absent for a reason.  The owners of Perpetua, Inc and the investors that put money in Perpetua, Inc looked the other way as well.

Funeral and Cemetery Scandal needs to stop. Many need to speak up now. The moment is here.

Funeral Preneed is Dead Even in the Richest Towns-YourFuneralGuy.

29 Jul

A Preneed Funeral Arrangement is a contract, it is not wise to participate

A Preneed Funeral Arrangement is a contract, it is not wise to participate

Funeral preneed is dead and in need of a burial. This is true even in the richest cities and towns. The main reason is that no honest funeral director will say that you can lock in today’s prices 1, 2, or 10 years from now. In the Uncertain economy the pitch given for 30 years in the funeral industry has become a lie.  If a funeral director or preneed specialist(counselor) tells you that prices are “locked in” get up and leave.

Even In the posh suburbs of Chicago Preneed sales are scant.

From  Naperville the plush Chicago Suburb.

“Stephanie Jones-Kastelic, co-owner of Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, said the number of prepay{PRE NEED} packages purchased is going down.

In previous years, financially well-off couples in their 70s and 80s would come to the funeral home to pre-purchase funeral packages so their children or family would not have to cover the costs. This year, Jones-Kastelic said, she sees very few of those couples, and most of her pre-pay customers are seniors about to go on Medicare who want to spend their own money on the expense, which Medicare does not cover.”-THE NAPERVILLE SUN

The Funeral Preneed Scandals have been massive in the last several years:Illinois Funeral Directors Association  (IFDA up to 100 Million), National Prearranged Services(NPS over 1 Billion), Wade Funeral Home, Burr Oak Cemetery-many more.

Farrah Fawcett |Funeral|Grave Curse for Charlies Angels-YourFuneralGuy

5 Jul

Farrah_Fawcett_iconic_pinup_1976There seems to be a grave curse for Farrah Fawcett and the rest of Charlies Angels.

Now it appears that that the three little girls who went to the police academy are under a cancer curse that will take them to the grave.

To be sure I do not wish the grave or a cancer diagnosis on anybody. I have  received a cancer diagnosis and have been close to the edge of my grave. I do not which those experiences on anyone.

This idea  of a Charlies Angel Curse does not really begin with me, although lots of folks think funeral directors minds are twisted enough to create a curse. The concept is several years old and comes from of one of the original “Charlies Angels”.

From  a 2007 Report.

“Original CHARLIE’S ANGELS star JACLYN SMITH fears the cast of the cult 1970s TV series is cursed – because four leading stars have all battled cancer. Smith and fellow Angel Kate Jackson battled breast cancer, John Forsythe, who provided the voice of detective agency boss Charlie, is a colon cancer survivor, and Farrah Fawcett……”

“Once upon a time there were three little girls who went to the police academy.” -Opening Charlis Angels

Today I must sadly say there appears to be a grave death cancer curse on the original “Charlies Angels”

Now is the Time for NFDA Board Members to weigh in on Randal L.Earl.-yourfuneralguy

The NFDA Executive Secretary is a key player in Illinois Funeral Scandal. He HAS SHOWN NO REMORSE.

The NFDA Executive Secretary is a key player in Illinois Funeral Scandal. He HAS SHOWN NO REMORSE.

The NFDA Executive Secretary Randall L Earl is closely tied to the Illinois Funeral Directors Funeral Scandal. He was IFDA President when the decline of the IFDA Preneed Trust Began. Earl has been mamed in every lawsuit in the Illinois Funeral Directors Association scheme where nearly 100 million has been lost, misappropiated.

Randal L Earl   is the  named in four IFDA Lawsuits. He may well become an albatross around the neck of the National Funeral Directors Association. His involvement in the transfer of IFDA Preneed Trust funds  to the Defunct Illinois Funeral Directors Association needs to be addressed.

Randall L Earl is speaking this week at the Illinois Funeral Directors Asosociation Convention. This is evidence that the IFDA does not want to change and address their Scandal. It indicates an unwillingness to move to an honest Funeral Directors Association in Illinois.

It is time for NFDA Executive  Board members to weigh on te NFDA secretary who is involved in a major funeral scandal.
