Your Funeral Guy: Roland Burris inbeded in Scandal.

14 Jan

Roland Burris is in- bed-ed in the Illinois Funeral Directors Mismangement Debacle or Scandal. In order to prevent another funeral industry/funeral cost  coverup this Senate Nominee needs to answer questions on what he did for the Illinois Funeral Directors Association association as a lobbyist.

On Dec 30th it was announced that Roland Burris was a lobbyist for the Illinios Funeral Directors Association. In Illinos funeral cost has been drastically affected by the IFDA Preneed  Trust Fund Mismanagement Debacle. So has funeral industry reputation.

The Illinois Funeral Directors Association lost 59 million dollars in their fund. Burris served a s a lobbyist  for the Illinois Funeral Directors Asscociation.

The Barack Obama Senate seat nominee needs to reveal what he did while he was in-bed-ed  with the Illinois Funeral Directors Association.

How much has he been paid by the IFDA?

Whom did he lobby for the IFDA?

What were the the Issues?

When did he begin lobbying for the IFDA and when did he stop?

Did he lobby regulators of the funeral industry?

Was he paid with Preneed Trust fund money?

These are just a few Questions that need answers.

These thing need to be revealed now rather than later.

The United States of America  and the State of Illinois cannot afford to wait.

Way to go Governor Blagojeich it appears you may have put another cover-up guy in power

Your Funeral Guy: The Average Funeral Cost of Traditional Funeral is over $8000.00 USD

8 Dec

The Average Cost of a Funeral in 2008 was $8000.00 USD +and maybe more. This year the NFDA  raised the average funeral cost in 2006 to $7,323.00 Dollars. This has been mentioned at this blog. Now how can this happen? The National Funeral Directors Association.collects statistics from funeral homes and funeral directors around the United States. If they receive more information they change the numbers.

Cost for traditional Funerals has been trending upward.  but at the same time lower cost funerals such as green funerals, cremation and direct burial are also growing to  the broad prosperity of all. This also has sent the traditional funeral cost upward. It has cut into funeral home profits.

So after much research I am lowballing the average cost of a funeral in 2008 to be $8000.00 USD.

The Over 50 Website declares the same average funeral cost. “the average US funeral costs over $8,000 as far as I can deduce from the sparse information that is published, and it seems very easy for funerals to cost from $10,000 to $20,000 or more!”

Your Funeral Guy: Last Nite on Fox News

5 Dec

Last nite on tv I was flipping through the News and on Fox, I heard a funeral guy say on Sheppard Smith”s show say that things  are going to stay good for the funeral industry because there will be more people with malnutrition  dying due to the economy!

What on the good earth is this?A professional stating publicly that folks dying  is good?

Plus these Funeral directors need to adjust to the fact that people are paying less and they will need realize the reality that funeral homes will be expected to do more low cost funeral deals!

With economic down turn folks are demanding more lower cost funerals. The National Funeral Directors Association is stating  the average cost of a funeral is $7,323 USD.

With burial costs this can come to over $10,000 USD.

FYI cremation expenses should come in between $800 and $1500 USD. Some Funeral homes charge up to $2800 for a cremation. Buyer  beware of the Funeral Directors take pride in their ability to raise the average cost of a cremation funeral.

Be sure to let me know how you lowered your funeral expenses.

Your Funeral Guy: Funeral Cost remains of NPS picked over.

10 Jul

Funeral Cost remains of NPS picked over. As Funeral homes pay for this your cost goes up.

NPS- National Prearrange Services- Funeral Cost Scandal hits 500 Million. Here is a quote from a recent article on Funeral Cost. “The FBI is interested. Funeral homes across the nation wonder if they will be forced to pay for tens of thousands of funerals. Authorities are tracing the various fates of $500 million in prepaid funeral funds.”

More importantly as Funeral homes pay for this your cost goes up.

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/story/3F4D6DC2E8D284FC862574810011E33E?OpenDocument

Again the lesson here it is do not do preneed. Preplan but do not prepay. No matter what is said a low cost or lower cost funeral cannot be done by prepaying a funeral director.

Will the same fate happen to the IFDA? IFDA Preneed trust? Illinois Funeral Directors Association? There loss was only 40 million dollars! Look inside the funeral cost book.

Your Funeral Guy: Funeral Cost-Options Caskets up to 1/2 off

6 Jul

According to a recent Funeral Cost ( Newsweek and the FCA) article Caskets can be obtained for 1/2 off from an alternate source or on the internet. According to Newsweek and the FCA:

“The funeral-home defendants are charging about double for caskets that are identical to what you can get elsewhere,” says Gordon Schnell, an attorney representing the class-action defendants. “You can buy caskets privately, on the Internet, at Costco—we want to get the word out that consumers have options.”

Funeral home defendants described here are: the major Funeral Home Corporations and the major casket corporation. These are the major funeral corporations in America.

Unfortunately family funeral homes also employ this tactic Some Funeral Home leaders mentioned on this blog do this( Hultrgen Funeral Home, Calvert Funeral Homes and Trimble Funeral Homes). Just to be clear half off is an estimate and does not apply to all areas of the country

Your Funeral Guy:Funeral Directors Raise Funeral Cost-The apprentice

24 Jun

The Funeral Cost of a Funeral Director is about 20 to 26 USD a hour in 2008. It is a large factor in the average cost of a funeral.

The funeral home owner cost is much more. If you use the traditional funeral home engage the funeral owner’s (or manager )services—- you certainly are paying for the service. Here are two of the Tricks funeral home owners employ is to raise funeral cost.

1. use apprentices to lower their cost

demand a licensed person!

2. limit the time that funeral directors spend with you without lowering your cost.

take as much time as you need!

A simple tip to lower funeral cost is to ask for a green funeral, green burial and information on the average cost of a funeral. Remember it is best to be your own funeral advocate.

More information on what is involved with a funeral and Average Funeral Cost here in two books.

Two books have contributed to the Funeral cost reduction situation.

Your Funeral Guy: Call Funeral Directors to honesty on Funeral Cost

Your Funeral Guy: Call Funeral Directors to honesty on Funeral Cost

Recently I thanked a Funeral Director on another blog for his honesty on Funeral Cost.

Here is what I said it is worth repeating here:

“Thank you for your honesty.

we share a trust level well short of that of mechanics, stockbrokers, real estate and insurance agents. This information should be a wake up call.

Only a few in our profession are this honest and candid. On another blog on this site I have mentioned & commented on some scandals. They are the result of the sins of more than a few. Let it be known that inspite of some blogs and comments that are tough, I have withheld information from the media on these events. Instead I have called on Leaders in the Funeral Industry to be honest. You sir are a part of the city set on the hill.

Your ethics are appreciated. I love helping families and for that reason I wrote a new book called Rest in Peace. In this work I declare that there are honest ethical funeral directors like yourself who are willing to embrace the changes that are to come!”

It is my hope that the ILLINOIS FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION (IFDA )will embrace ethics and honesty.

Right now I just find myself too busy helping folks lower the cost of their funerals…to keep up with this.

The IFDA knows the changes that are coming.

To the IFDA I Wish you the best.

There will be blogs here from time to time as things become public on the IFDA Funeral cost issue and the “IFDA Preneed Trust.”

The IFDA has had it’s wake up call.

Earlier this year it came out that the IFDA- had mis managed 40 Million Dollars of the folks “IFDA Preneed Trust” money in Illinois.

Beware of organizations like the IFDA in keeping Funeral Directors Honest and keeping your lower cost funeral Specific State Senator Randall Hulfgren refused to take action on this along with hultgrenfh. Hultgren Funeral Home is not the only culprit. Trimble Funeral Homes www.trimblefuneralhomes.com had family on the IFDA committees and has refused comment on the IFDA Preneed Trust situation inspite of positve press from…Quad-City Dispatch

June 20th, 8.00 pm: Facultatieve Technologies on the History Channel
In America, the popular Modern Marvels programme is broadcast daily by the ‘History Channel’. Each programme deals with unusual stories behind a broad range of subjects; from simple tools and technical discoveries to human miracles.

On 20 June 2008 (8.00 pm), it will dedicate an entire programme to cremation and its origins, with Facultatieve Technologies being invited as the expert opinion. This is to be expected, as Facultatieve Technologies leads the pack in the field of designing, constructing and maintaining cremation ovens, both in the US and across the globe. This international organisation has been active in the branch since 1908, endowing with it a vast repository of in-house experience and expertise.

The programme meets the staff, and visits the main site with all its facilities. It will cover the history of cremation, but will chiefly focus on its future, discussing, for instance, the environmentally-friendly units made by Facultatieve Technologies in Medina.
