A Good Goodbye-Alkaline Hydroylsis Disposition-Water Resolution-YourFuneralGuy

1 Jan

The author of the new Funeral Book, Has posted some information on Alkaline Hydrolysis disposition and water Resolution at her website. This is an excerpt from the book “A GoodGoodbye:

A New Eco-Friendly Disposal Method

While not in widespread use by funeral homes yet, there’s a relatively new process that liquefies the body into a coffee-colored sterile solution that can be safely disposed of in water or on land without concern about toxic chemicals.

This developing green alternative to burial and cremation accelerates natural decomposition. It has different names given by four different providers: BioSAFE Engineering calls it Water Resolution®, Eco-Green Cremation System calls it Natural Cremation, Matthews International, Inc. calls it Bio-cremation or Resomation®, and CycledLife calls it by its official name, alkaline hydrolysis.

The body is placed in a specialized tank that is filled with a strong alkali solution that is brought up to high temperature and pressure. The tissue dissolves into basic life-building blocks of amino acids, peptides, sugars, and soap (actually, the salts of fatty acids), leaving white, brittle skeletal remains that are easily powdered to ash. These sterile “bone shadows” can be returned as ashes if the family desires.

The process neutralizes embalming fluid, drugs, and the body’s DNA/RNA and it produces much less CO2 than a cremation. Titanium medical implants can be recovered intact and perfectly usable in Third World countries by organizations such as Doctors Without Borders. While not yet widely used as of 2010, the Mayo Clinic has successfully used the Water Resolution® process since 2007 to dispose of bodies donated for scientific research.

CycledLife and Aquamation shared the same booth at the National Funeral Directors Convention. Reports at the Convention  state that Aquamation now has the rights to sell the  Joe Wilson’s CycledLife machine in the United States.

Reports coming from the convention indicate that the green cremation process on humans  has been taking place  at the Acquamation Industries Center in Australia.

The question: Who Will Do the 1st Green Cremation-Your Funeral Guy

10 Oct

Who will do the first green cremation In The Funeral Business? Or has it been done? Some companies like Aquamation Industries in Australia, Transition Services in Canada, Mathews International in the USA claim to have  Green Cremation, Resomation -cycled life machines in place. Inspite of all the hype in the press no one has claimed to push the button on  any of these machines on a a dead hman body for the Funeral Industry.

It has been done for Years at Medical Schools, in other medical facilities in pet cremations   but to date no one in apress release  or announcement has claimed to be the first to use this for funerals. Alkaline Hydrolysis disposition,  cycled burial, water cremation and water resolution are other trms for this means of dispositionas a means of disposition.

It could be that it will be announced this week at the National Fuuneral Directors Convention (NFDA) in the USA,ut Maybe not.

It will happen. Making it all a bit  complex, Bio Safe Engineering holds the patents.

United States at The Forefront of Resomation, Green Cremation|YourFuneralGuy

20 Aug resomation-and-corpse-composting-greener-alternatives-to-burial-and-cremation-2
List of constitutions of the United States

United States is at the Forefront of Resomation or Green Cremation. The main  companies  are in the United States  that are making and distributing Green, Resomation, Alkaline Hydroylsis, Machines.

Ultimately, it may be the high cost of resomation that keeps it from catching on in Belgium. The Belgian government covers the cost of cremation and would likely be expected to pick up the tab for resomation–something critics are likely to resist. So for now, the U.S. will remain at the forefront of resomation.

via www.forbes.com

Aquamation Industries in Australia claims to be making a low pressure alkaline hydrolysis machine. My Sources state  that their machine up to now has been produced in The USA.( there are many unverifiable claims at the Aquamation  website)

Resomation LTD in the UK has machines but the Forbes Article suggest it won’t happen Belgium soon. Belgian Funeral Directors want it to Happen. Europe right now is not the center of Alkaline Hydrolysis in  the Funeral  industry.

Sandy Sullivan of the Resomation LTD  is trying to bring Resomation to the UK and Europe.

Matthews International, Inc is making (Resomation LTD machines)and Distributing  the High Pressure Alkaline Hydrolysis Bio Cremation Machines in the USA.(Machine production verified)

CycledLife Inc is  selling and Distributing  Low Pressure, lower heat green cremations machines made by  BioResponse  Solutions, Inc( Machine Production Verified)

Eco-Green Cremation Systems, Inc produces low pressure, low to medium heat green cremation machines. It is still unknown who is making the Eco-Green Cremation Systems, Inc machine.

BioSAFE Engineering makes resomation machines with a human cadaver application and has them places at universities around the world. (Machine Production Verified)

Resomation Machines Cost much more than low pressure green cremation machines.

There is talk of other companies emerging who will be making green cremation machines and resomators, resomation- alkaline hydrolysis machines. Nothing is verified at this time.

There are up to 100 locations rumored to receive low pressure andhigh pressure alkaline hydrolysis water cremation machines  for the Funeral Industry in the United States. NON-Funeral industry investors are becoming involved .

Resomation machines will likely result in higher funeral cost than low pressure machines.

Green cremation, Alkaline Hydrolysis, Resomation, receives unjust Criticism-yourfuneralguy

11 Jul Belgium Resomation

There has been some negative press of late on alkaline hydrolysis and  the new green cremation, procedure known as resomation. It appears to me that some in the press have not taken the time to understand the process. By not investigating the process and simply attacking the aesthetics involved, a green innovation is receiving unjust criticism.

Here is one recent Headline:

“Belgium’s plan to wash its dead down the drain: Bodies would be dissolved in caustic solution… and flushed into the sewer

It could hardly be said to be the most dignified of send-offs.

Undertakers in Belgium plan to eschew traditional burials and cremations and start dissolving corpses instead.

The move is intended to tackle a lack of burial space and environmental concerns as 573lbs of carbon dioxide are released by each cremated corpse.

via www.dailymail.co.uk

Many of the comments on this article cried Solyent Green is people, an expected response given the 1970 movie “Fahrenheit 451″  Here is Your Funeral Guys comment at the site.
“The soylent green response to this process is quite expected. The Fluid does not half to go down the drain, although the fluid is safe if not welcome in sewage treatment plants. No one eats the remains, in this process. It is eco friendly, consumer friendly, inexpensive and will help the funeral industry around the world deal with their current crisis of lack of funds and burial land.”via www.dailymail.co.uk
In fact green cremation-resomation- is  the most green alternative for disposition available in the world today.
Another negative press report is presented here.

Talk about not giving a proper burial to a beloved one, the Belgium government plans to wash its dead bodies down drains as the corpses would be dissolved in a caustic solution and then flushed into the sewer.

The media needs to fully investigate before presenting the negative side of a new innovation. The publics perception will change once the aesthetics are perceived correctly, the cost benefit  to the family is presented as well as the benefits to the earth.

Your Funeral Guy Exclusive: Battle Of The New Green Cremation Machine |Alkaline Hydrolysis? Cryomation

13 Jun image5911

CycledLife alkaline hydrolysis Machine

Will The cremation of the future  Green Cremation  be Alkaline Hydrolysis or Cryomation? The next cultural shift in disposing of the dead will  be Green Cremation.

There are two processes that are on the horizon one is called Alkaline Hydrolysis, where water pressure heat and alkaline combine to accelerate decomopostion of the body. Ashes are returned to the Family at the end of this process.

The other process Called Cryomation where the body is freeze dried and then broken down into an ash like substance to be returned to the family- Charles Cowling at the Good Funeral Guide has been covering this.

Snippet from the Cryomation website.

The process itself uses Liquid Nitrogen to freeze the body to -196 degrees C until the body is brittle. The body is then fragmented, foreign metal objects removed, and body materials returned to the process. The remains are then freeze dried under a range of vacuumed conditions to remove the moisture. Our process (patent pending) ensures that the final powder is sterile and 100% free of all bacteria & viruses. An accelerated composting process further reduces the mass and means that what is returned can itself, generate and sustain life.

via www.cryomation.co.uk

There is a computer graphic video of the process, but no real machine pictured.

The Cryomation Machine has been demonstrated in the UK. The larger resomation machines have been in use in Medical Schools in the US for the disposition of Medical waste and cadavers.

There are 4 players in the world racing to put this machine out. Eco-Green Cremation System, BioSafe Engineering, CycledLife and Resomation Ltd.

Resomation LTD  has claimed to ship a resomation machine for Funeral Industry Use to it’s distributor Matthews International In the USA in 2009. Almost A year later NOW  however the Machine is NOT INSTALLED.

Cryomation(R) says they have run a demonstration.I have seen a Cycled Life(R) demonstration with my own eyes. I  also have all seen BioSafe Engineering Machines.

I have verified that Cycle life is shipping a green cremation machine to the funeral industry. Eco-Green cremation systems claims to be shipping cremation Machines

I have pictures of the machines from all the players in the green cremation machine race  except Eco-Green Cremation System, Inc and Cryomation(R). It raises the question, Do either of these even have a machine yet? These folks may not like the question, but they are not releasing evidence of where they are at with there machines and bio cremation.

What are these men behind the curtain  at Eco-Green Cremation System, Inc and Cryomation(R) , doing? Even the little dog Toto cannot tell what these “Wizards of Oz” are doing.

It could be though that we  get up one morning though and any of the four players in alkaline hydrolysis or the cryomation folks may have multiple green cremation machines working in the funeral industry around the world.

Resomation Machine Pic from the UK( Resomation LTD)

Note: Promessa is a company that uses liquid nitrogen in a an organic burial, Cryomation(R) is a company that takes the process  takes the process a step further in creating ash from the liquid nirtogen process. This differs from cryonics which keeps a body continually frozen for future restoration.

Your Funeral Guy Exclusive: Funeral Industry Alkaline Hydrolysis(Pics) Demonstration

6 Jun CycledLife alkaline hydrolysis Machine

Your Funeral Guy attended a demonstration of what appears to be the first Alkaline Hydrolysis Disposition Machine being shipped for Funeral Industry Use . This demonstration took place on Friday June 4th 2010 in the Midwest, United States.

Alkaline Hydrolysis is a  a green carbon footprint disposition process that is environmentally friendly , that can be summed up as accelerated decomposition. Some call it green 0r natural cremation but it is not really cremation at all. And end product like a cremation ashes is returned to a family in an urn, just as in cremation.

Click here for picks from the demonstration.

There are Four Players in this Market.

Matthews International who has a  Higher pressure, Higher temperature Resomation Machine Distributorship in the USA.

BioSafe Engineering who has a Higher pressure, Higher Temperature Water Resolution (TM) machine in Production close to completion.{Verified}

CycledLife (TM) who has a working machine that is being Shipped to the Funeral Industry.{pictures} This machine has been demonstrated. This is a picture of the Cycled Life Machine-Machine stopped, Machine in upright position, Remains being examined in the middle of the process on June 4th 2010.

Some Support in Washington State For Bio,Green Cremation|YourFuneralGuy

10 May

There is some support for Bio Cremation or Green Cremation in Washington State. This according to the Washington Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association. The idea of cremation with a good carbon footprint has wide appeal across the United States.

There are three main players in this market in  North America, Matthews International, BioSafe Engineering and CycledLife.

We are looking into adopting new regulations permitting resomation in Washington state. It seems to be an excellent alternative to traditional cremation-by-fire, the resulting product is actually more attractive than traditional cremated remains (if such can be said to be “attractive”), and we can see no reason as a profession to oppose progress of this sort.
