Now is the time to end the State of Maryland’s Funeral Cartel -Your Funeral Guy has worked with Maryland Funeral Homes and have found them to be very protective of the TRADITIONAL FUNERAl  overall and not open to low cost Funeral Options.

Now this is not true across the board and is based on Your Funeral Guy’s experience only.

None the less State funeral cartels are harmful to the general public and need to be regulated.

A cartel of state-licensed funeral directors has been fleecing Maryland consumers to the tune of $800 per funeral for decades. The law that created this Maryland funeral cartel is unfair, immoral and unconscionable. A federal appeals court will soon decide whether it is also unconstitutional. The stakes are high: With 43,000 deaths per year in Maryland, the funeral cartel stands to lose tens of millions of dollars per year in unearned monopoly profits, and it certainly won’t let that happen without a fight.

Alone among the states, Maryland law provides that only state-licensed funeral directors may own funeral homes. Now, it’s one thing to say that anyone who wants to conduct a funeral has to be a licensed funeral director, but it’s another thing to say that only licensed funeral directors may own funeral homes. That’s like saying only licensed pilots can own airlines. And guess who spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on lobbyists to thwart public-spirited reform efforts and prevent the Maryland funeral industry from being opened up to fair competition the way it is in other states? Why, state-licensed funeral directors of course.

Unfortunately debt collection does not stop when you die, In age where many American’s are overcome by debt. Debt has become a problem both before and after death.

The Great recession has caused many debt difficulties in the USA. The Wall Street Crash of 2008 has forced many into foreclosure and debt default. Mamuch debt has gone to horrendous, heartless third party collectors

The Federal Trade Commission is seeking to revise the protocol surrounding two of life’s touchiest subjects: debt and death.

Debt collection has become an increasingly controversial practice as more Americans default on loan payments. Government data show the charge-off rate on consumer loans spiked to 6.71 percent during the second quarter – the highest level in at least 25 years. (Five years ago, the charge-off rate – loans written off by their lenders as uncollectable – was 2.4 percent.) Meanwhile, debt collection ranked second on the FTC’s list of most common consumer complaints last year after not even cracking the top 20 two years ago.

The rise in debt collection has spawned a niche market devoted to recouping money from those who die with unpaid bills. The FTC began investigating the practice several months ago and found confusion among collectors over whom they were allowed to contact and what they could say, said Joel Winston, the agency’s associate director of financial practices.

“The debt doesn’t disappear when the person dies,” he said. “It’s still a valid debt, and the collector can still collect it.”

But the question is: From whom?

A Funeral director has been found guilty of desecrating human remains by substituting other remains for ashes  scattered  by mistake.

As innocent as this mistake may seem it does indicate a lack of respect for the dead

“A Libertyville funeral director has pleaded guilty to desecrating human remains for substituting ashes that had been buried in a cemetery for some that had been mistakenly scattered over a Wisconsin lake.

After entering her plea Thursday in Lake County Circuit Court to the class three felony, a judge sentenced 32-year-old Marcee Dane of the Burnett Dane Funeral Home to 30 days in jail and 150 days of home monitoring. She was also fined $10,000.

The Chicago Tribune reports Dane has surrendered her funeral director’s license, and can’t work at the family business during her probation.
