14 FebBatesville Casket has entered into another non casket business. This time it is grief publishing, In the past several months the ailing casket maker has entered the burial vault business(Goria Burial Vault), the manufacturing business(K-Tron), the obituary business(ObitLink), and now grief publishing with Alan D.Woefelt, Ph.D.

Renowned grief educator Alan D. Wolfelt Ph.D., has collaborated with Batesville Management Services to develop the Helping Series, a set of brochures that offers assistance to mourners in coping with specific types of death and grief responses. The Helping Series is used by hundreds of hospices and funeral homes throughout North America.
The search occurred in google real time search on February 14th, 2010. It is unclear from the web site how long the association with grief publishing has been going on. One thing is certain the antics of Batesville Casket Co. have only been recently reported here and several other places online. Making alliances with others in the funeral industry and getting funeral homes to do high mark ups on their caskets has worked for years. The availability of information on the internet has recently brought NYSE:HI marketing strategies into the light.
The recent patterns with Hillenbrand,Inc, NYSE:HI all point to funeral industry decline, even if there is a net income gain from the 2009 Batesville financial disaster, it will take several years of growth for the company to recover-this is the opinion of your funeral guy.

Peloisi to attend the John Murtha Funeral
The speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Peloisi will be attending Congressman John Murtha’s Funeral along with a Congressional Delegation on February16th 2009. in PA.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is expected to attend John Murtha’s funeral Tuesday in Johnstown.
According to a Murtha spokesman, Pelosi will be part of a large official congressional delegation to be present for the service. Other VIPs are also expected.

US Rep. John Murtha Funeral Arrangements-Your Funeral Guy
11 FebThe John Murtha Funeral arrangements consist of a public viewing, a private funeral and a private burial.
A Public Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Frank Duca Funeral Home in Westmont near Jonhstown. PA
The private funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Westmont Presbyterian Church.
The private burial ceremony comes after the Funeral Service at Grandview Cemetery in Westmont PA on Tuesday.
Murtha’s family is working with the Office of the Speaker of the House to hold a public memorial in the U.S. Capitol in the coming weeks. More details will be released in the near future. A congressional delegation is also expected to be present for the private funeral service on Tuesday- via DalilyAmerican .com

Pennsylvannia Gov.(D) Rendell Trying to increase Funeral Costs-YourFuneralGuy
10 FebThe Pennsylvannia Governor Ed Rendell is trying to increase funeral costs in that state by adding a a sales tax on funerals. In a new legislative proposal the governor of PA wants to join 37 other states with a sales tax on the funeral.
“Since 1963, families in Pennsylvania have paid for a funeral without paying sales tax. Under the budget proposed by Gov. Ed Rendell on Tuesday, sales tax would be added to caskets and funeral costs.
Rendell’s proposed budget would reduce Pennsylvania’s sales tax from 6 to 4 percent, but the tax will apply to more goods and services — including funerals.”-Via Pocono Record
Another case of increasing taxes under the guise of lowering them. This time the target is funeral cost
Ultimately this sort of thing causes a rise in funeral cost(funeral expenses) to the consumer through the raising of funeral prices as well.
