Your Funeral Guy: Embalming, the Funeral Rule, and funeral cost

26 Apr

The main point about embalming is that it is a funeral cost you are not required to pay for. This is outlined in the funeral rule a body of Congressional Law designed to protect your Funeral Rights

Many funeral directors require embalming if you are planning a viewing or visitation. Embalming generally is not necessary or legally required if the deceased body is buried or cremated shortly after death. Eliminating this  embalming service can save you many hundreds of of dollars. Under the Funeral Rule(established by Congress), a funeral director:

  • may not provide embalming services without permission; this sometimes happens.
  • may not falsely state that embalming is required by law; you should be informed of this by your funeral director.
  • must disclose in writing that embalming is not required by law, except in certain special cases;
  • may NOT charge a fee for unauthorized embalming unless embalming is required by law;
  • must disclose in writing that you have the right to choose another disposition, such as direct cremation or immediate burial, that does not require embalming if you do not want this service;
  • must in writing disclose that some funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing, may make embalming a practical and a safety necessity and, if so, a required purchase.

    This come from the experience of your funeral guy.

    Your Funeral Guy: I thought I was Frodo! Inaugural Ball to Rest in Peace

    21 Apr

    In 2004 my wife and I were invited to the Inaugural Ball in Washington DC. With the help of friends we were able to go. We moved back to the Midwest in  2005 and  we
    started on a new path. This was interrupted by an Injury and Illness in 2006.

    In 2007  a NDE (Near death experience) brought about the writing of “Rest in Peace Insiders Tips to the Low Cost Less Stress Funeral”

    I had such a laser focus that I thought I was like Frodo the ringbearer in Lord of the Rings. I was told by the nurses in CCU and ICU that the Low  Cost Less Stress Funeral was a real zingwhacker idea.

    What a concept show folks how to lower the cost and the stress of their funeral so they can concentrate on their health. It works for folks who are in nursing homes or just on their way there. Just a book on Funeral Cost. All this occurred at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois.

    Your Funeral Guy: Discover The Hidden Funeral Cost Strategy

    17 Apr

    The hidden funeral cost strategy is right there on the General Price List. A GPL or general price list is required by the Funeral Rule and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). If you inquire on prices a Funeral Home is required by a body of Congressional Law to supply a General Price List. Every time you got to a different funeral home it is a good idea to pick one up.

    The hidden funeral cost strategy is:

    You do not have to accept the prices on the General Price List of a specific situation. Many folks simply believe that the GPL is the final deal on the cost of a funeral.

    It is simply the start of the funeral negotiation process. It is only the starting point of negotiations!

    Your Funeral Guy: Cost Problems Need to be Addressed by Leaders in Illinois Need to Take Action

    16 Apr

    Funeral Leaders in Illinois need to to take responsibility for recent funeral cost events.

    There are three events that have been covered on this blog.

    1. (IFDA)The Illinois Funeral Directors Association 40 Million dollar deficit (in the IFDA preneed trust) a sad commentary on poor leadership and management. The fact that they are requiring funeral homes to turn in copies of death certificates from the past is because they paid out funds without death certificates. What would have happened to an insurance company that had done that?” We still have not been told where the 40 million USD went.

    2. Then there was the National Prearranged Services (NPS)Scandal where this preneed company has shut down. The Illinois Comptroller in his press release of April 11th he stated that nps took advantage of Funeral Homes. It is the Funeral homes who hired NPS in the first place, a poor funeral cost business decision. Your Funeral Guy actually worked with a preneed sales guy where a good portion of his 1million dollars in sales was NPS. The Funeral persons here took the money!

    3. Another case of the funeral director disappears and takes the money is outlined in a blog post here

    http://www.progressiveu.org/151837-funeral-cost-and-funeral-fraud-video

    As mentioned before there are leaders who need to come forward and state what has happened and what needs to be done about this.

    In the Illinois State Legislature State Representative Dan Brady and State Senator Randall Hultgren of Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton, IL. These are the ones who can step forward and offer solutions.

    Your Funeral Guy: NPS Shut down– Funeral cost Problem For Funeral Homes & Consumers

    13 Apr

    National Prearranged Services or nps was reported in a Press Release by the Illinois Comptroller. Some funeral folks ran off with the money. This presents a monetary Funeral Cost problem for funeral homes and consumers.

    In Illinois the State will pay the face value of the Funeral insurance policy so the consumer will be able to have their funeral. The funeral home owners and funeral home’s budget will suffer because interest on these policies will not be paid. Funeral homes were counting on making their budgets with these funds.

    This means that the funeral home owners will try to squeeze the funeral consumer owner further. More Funeral Cost to all. A sad situation.

    Here is a link to one of my blogs that explains more about this situation.

    Your Funeral Guy: Causes and Cost of “Rest in Peace”

    12 Apr

    The causes and costs of “Rest in Peace Insider’s Tips to the Low Cost Less Stress Funeral” personally are many. But Injury, multiple illnesses, financial difficulties, a lot of reflection and stress are the main costs and causes. I personally met Robert Kennedy in Washington D.C in 1966 only to watch his State Funeral from a hospital bed in 1968. Little did he know I would someday be a Funeral Director In the Washington DC serving the nation’s elite and poor.

    I have presided over services at both Arlington National Cemetery and at the Marine Base in Quantico for those who fought in the Iraq War. An injury (and accompanying illnesses) forced me to take a leave from the funeral business and gave me time for consulting and to write “Rest in Peace.” I live in Illinois with my family. This is a real zingwacker of a personal story!
